October

As well as helping each child continue to settle in to Nursery and learn the Nursery routines and rules, we will be exploring the topics of Autumn and harvest time throughout this new month of October.  We will learn about these topics through our community time learning and through our play, both indoors and outdoors!

Throughout this month we will also be encouraging the children to try and put on and take off their own coats each day to develop their independence. Please encourage and allow your child time to do this at home too! In Nursery when putting on their coat, we encourage the children to first put their hood on their head, then put their arms one at a time in to the sleeves.

Our focus shape this month is rectangle, and our focus colour is orange. Can your child spot any rectangle or orange shaped objects around their house, or when out and about?

We enjoyed visiting our school MUGA pitch for the first time!

We enjoyed a visit to our school MUGA pitch!

We all walked to the MUGA in a line, following the person in front of us.
Once we got to the MUGA, we did a warm up to get our bodies warm and ready for exercising!

We then played the ‘bean game’ and enjoyed participating in some running races!

Today we had a look inside our class pumpkin. We had to cut open the top and use spoons to take out all the seeds.

We are enjoying making pictures using conkers and paint!

Mrs Bartholomew, along with some of the boys and girls, brought in some acorns and conkers to Nursery for our Autumn display table and our curiosity tray!

We had lots of fun using some of the conkers and Autumn coloured paints to make some lovely abstract pieces of art! The boys and girls particularly loved getting their hands messy!

We are enjoying staying for school dinners!

Dinner time is another new and important routine for the children to learn in Nursery! It is a lovely  opportunity for everyone to talk to one another at their table and it is a great learning experience too!

Just like at snack time, the children wash their hands and then pour out their own drink of milk or water.

During dinner time, the boys and girls are encouraged to eat their dinner, try new foods, use their knife and fork and sit on the chair with their feet on the floor. When they are finished, they then scrape their plates. Good manners are always role modelled and encouraged!
The boys and girls have really been enjoying their desserts too!

This week we have been learning how to play the drum!

We have all loved learning how to play the drum and working hard to keep a steady beat!

We have enjoyed playing along to some of our new Autumn songs!

We have been having fun beating the drum fast, slow, loudly and softly!

We all love to play outside in Nursery and when we are outside, we are constantly learning through our play.

As well as learning about the world around us, we are developing our social skills, language skills, our mathematical skills, our fine and gross motor skills, as well as developing our imaginations through art, roleplay and making models!

This month, we will be particularly helping the children to develop their gross motor skills, in particular, in relation to pedalling the trikes and ascending the slide steps using alternate feet and descending the slide confidently.

We will also be encouraging the boys and girls to try and put on and take off their own coats!

We enjoyed our first visit from Jo Jingles!

As well as developing their knowledge and understanding of our monthly topics, the boys and girls are given opportunities to develop many other skills and develop their understanding and knowledge across the 6 pre-school curriculum areas.

For instance, the boys and girls are given opportunities, with adult support and modelling, to learn to take turns and share with their new friends, they are learning to name and recognise colours and shapes, they are developing their problem-solving skills as they complete jigsaw puzzles, they are developing their communication skills and they are also developing their fine motor skills through art activities, playing with play dough and making models! The children are learning lots through their play!

We are enjoying making music with maracas and claves!
