Happy New Year and welcome back to Nursery!
This month (January) we will be exploring the exciting topics of ‘Birds’ and ‘Winter’.
We look forward to learning more about the birds that visit our gardens and local area, through our play, community time learning and educational visitors coming in to Nursery. We will be making our very own binoculars and going on a short winter and bird walk to see what birds we can see and hear in our Nursery playground and down on the MUGA beside the park. We will also be learning about how we can look after birds, especially in winter time.
Throughout January and February, we will be providing opportunities for children to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills across the various areas of the Pre-School Curriculum, in particular, developing fine and gross motor skills, as well as their independence as the children will be encouraged to try and zip and unzip their own coats!
We have enjoyed painting and drawing pictures of birds, as well as making birds using playdough, feathers, sticks and googly eyes!
We have been learning the names for the different parts of a bird’s body, as well as the names of some common garden birds!
Throughout the month of February, we will be exploring the exciting topic of ‘People Who Help Us’.
We will be learning about people who help us at home, in school and in the local community, through our play, community time learning and hopefully through some special visitors in to Nursery.
We will also learning how we can look after our bodies, including our teeth!
We will also be exploring the final signs of Winter as we observe snowdrops in our Nursery garden and enjoy painting and drawing pictures of them in our art area.
We look forward to celebrating Pancake Tuesday and some other special events this month.
We are already enjoying exploring our new topic. We have been busy in the art area painting pictures of fire engines, ambulances, post vans and police cars, dressing up as people who help us inside and outside, playing with the duplo police station, completing jigsaws and enjoying looking through and reading books in our library area and during community time learning!
As we play in Nursery, we are always learning!
We are…
-developing our social skills as we communicate and interact with our classmates; making friends and
developing important skills such as sharing and turn-taking, and qualities such as kindness and empathy
-developing our language, communication and listening skills
-developing mathematical knowledge, understanding, concepts and skills
-extending our knowledge about particular topics
-developing and refining our gross and fine motor skills
-developing our problem-solving skills
-learning to take risks and learn from our mistakes
-developing our imaginations and creativity
-developing our self-confidence
-expressing ourselves
- having fun!
We enjoyed celebrating Pancake Tuesday in Nursery!
We all helped to make the pancakes; to pour, sieve, stir and mix the ingredients together!
Mrs Bartholomew cooked the pancakes in the pan.
We enjoyed choosing yummy toppings for our pancakes!
We all thought that our pancakes were delicious!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
