Welcome to King’s Park Primary and Nursery School Lurgan.
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our school web site and to tell you a little about our school and what goes on here day by day. King’s Park school was built in 1936 and is in a prime location in the town of Lurgan in that it is quite close to the centre of town yet the school site backs onto Lurgan Park. Lurgan Park is an extensive green field town park second only in size as a town/city park to Phoenix Park in Dublin. This natural resource offers our children unique opportunities to learn, exercise and enjoy all that nature can offer in nurturing an inquiring mind and healthy body.
In the mid 1980’s the school was extended when twelve new classrooms and an administration block was added to the original building and in 2011 a new purpose built triple unit nursery block was constructed on our site. The nursery department is very much an integral part of what we offer to the children and families within our community and beyond.
In 2013 a full size Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) was built in our grounds and this facility greatly enhances the physical activity opportunities we as a school are able to offer to our children.
In King’s Park we aim to provide each child with a broad and balanced curriculum within a caring and stimulating environment, supported by a highly committed and professional staff. At present we have 78 children attending our three nursery classes and 630+ children in our twenty-seven Primary One to Primary Seven classes. Our enrolment number is 658 with an admissions number of 94 into Primary One.
While we are a large primary and nursery school with a large staff we very much embrace the ‘distributive’ leadership model of school management. As such all staff, both teaching and support staff, from the most experienced to the newest recruit is encouraged to offer their individual skills and talents so as to ensure all of our children are challenged and supported as individual needs require.
Since the year 2000 we have operated a Breakfast and After School Club known as Kidz Patch for our children, this facility runs each day from 7.30 am to 6.00 pm. With the construction of our new nursery in 2011 this facility, which is managed by the school in conjunction with the local Caring Association, re-located to the nearby Jethro Centre.
As a school we have had a long and distinguished tradition and we the current staff intend to continue to enhance the school’s reputation within and beyond our immediate area by continuing to meet the needs of our community in all aspects of the education and development of its children up to the age of eleven.
We as a school pride ourselves in providing a broad and balanced curriculum to all with an emphasis on academic excellence and the development of each individual’s talents and abilities to the full.
Education and learning is we feel a lifelong process and it would be our principle aim to endeavour to equip all of our children with the necessary skills and abilities during their most formative years so as to ensure that each and every child will be able to maximise his or her individual talents to the full and to take up a productive and positive role in society.
As you will read elsewhere in our school literature we will at all times put the needs of your child as our ‘first’ priority and to this end I would ask all families and parents of King’s Park to work with the staff in partnership on a day to day basis. I believe that if we all work together in the interests of your child/ren then undoubtedly their time at King’s Park will be both rewarding and enjoyable.
In conclusion, if you would like to speak with me on any matter regarding our various school policies and procedures or about enrolment or any other aspect of school life, please simply call or email me at any time and an appointment can be organised at your convenience.
Yours sincerely
