October

As well as helping each child continue to settle in to Nursery and learn the Nursery routines and rules, we will be exploring the new topics of Autumn and harvest time throughout this new month of October.

We will learn about these topics through our community time learning, through our play, both indoors and outdoors and from a visit from Jen and Jo Jingles! We would also encourage you to enjoy Autumn walks with your family, encouraging your child to look for and collect some signs of Autumn, such as Autumnal leaves, acorns, cones, conkers! Maybe you will even spot a squirrel or hedgehog!

Throughout this month we will also be encouraging the children to try and put on and take off their own coats each day to develop their independence, as well as take part in activities to help develop their fine motor skills!
Our focus shape this month is rectangle, and our focus colour is orange.

We are learning through our play, both indoors and outdoors, every day!

Lots of important skills are developed in Nursery, including play skills, language and communication skills, social skills, turn-taking skills, fine and gross motor skills, Mathematical language and skills, ICT skills and many many more!

The boys and girls were encouraged to go on an Autumn walk with their families to look for and find some signs of the new season of Autumn! They found and brought in lots of colourful Autumn leaves, acorns, conkers and pine cones which we are enjoying exploring in Nursery! The children are enjoying using magnifying glasses to look closer at their Autumn treasures, as well as develop their fine motor skills through using tweezers and scissor tongs to lift the acorns, conkers and pine cones.

We have also been able to use the conkers with paint to create some lovely abstract pieces of art, and we will be using the leaves to make pictures and collages!

We have been so excited to explore pumpkins and different coloured and sized gourds outdoors! We have enjoyed using our hands, different sized spoons and scoops to scoop out the seeds and flesh. We then painted pictures of pumpkins at the easel.
We have been learning about hedgehogs and have enjoyed making playdough and using the dough to make our very own hedgehogs! We added googly eyes, sticks, twigs and pasta to make spiky hedgehogs. We also painted and drew pictures of hedgehogs at the art table and easel.

We are learning to care for the world around us!

We have been enjoying some Autumn sunshine and working hard in our Nursery outdoor classroom! We are learning to care for living things and the world around us! We have lots of willing and enthusiastic gardeners in our class who have been weeding, planting new bulbs and plants, as well as watering them! We can’t wait to watch the bulbs grow in to pretty flowers in Spring time!
