Kings’ Park sets the bar high!

King’s Park Primary School, Lurgan, has had another fantastic season in the Flahavan’s Primary Schools’ Cross Country League and also in the Northern Ireland Finals.

Both the Boys’ and Girls’ teams have dominated The Southern Area Cross Country Leagues for the past few seasons with the Boys winning the league for the past three years, finishing first in every race, and the Girls winning the League for the past two seasons, again winning every race.

Both teams went on to the 2017 Flahavan’s Northern Ireland Primary Schools Finals at Mallusk where the rich vein of form was continued. The Boys’ team, having won the Northern Ireland final last year for a second time, went on to retain their position by winning it again for a third time by an unbelievable margin of some 150 points. The Girls’ team, not to be outdone, went on to win their race too and have become the Northern Ireland Champions for the first time in the School’s history.

Both teams between them, over the last 5 years, have 5 district championships and 4 Northern Ireland titles, a remarkable achievement. Teachers Kieran Martin and Nichola Thompson are understandably well pleased with the children’s outstanding achievements. It is a credit to a fantastic bunch of children who have consistently, worked very hard over a sustained period, and have seen the results of dedication to training in all weathers! The parental support has been unquestionable in bringing their children to training, and even training alongside them in many cases. Kings Park promotes a healthy active approach and the children participate in the “Mile a day” challenge which encourages them to walk run or jog a mile a day. The children have enjoyed great success on the x-country field, and along with amassing some great memories, are developing their love for the sport and running in general.
