Healthy Eating Week Monday 27th February - Friday 3rd March

The School Council have organised a 'Healthy Eating Week' in school to promote healthy eating. This week will be from Monday 27th February to Friday 3rd March. 

 

The aim of this week is to promote and encourage healthy eating. A healthy snack trolley will be available in school for all children to purchase from. The trolley will include apples, bananas, oranges, watermelon, melon, grapes and carrots. All items on the trolley will cost 30p and the trolley will be available from Monday to Friday. Children are encouraged to bring a healthy snack every day of the Healthy Eating Week. Suggestions of suitable and unsuitable snacks are below:

Suitable Healthy Break Snacks
 Pieces of fresh fruit
 Fruit pots of sliced or chopped fresh fruit
 Canned fruit in natural juice (not syrup)
 Dried fruit e.g. raisins, cranberries, apricots
 Salad pots
 Vegetable sticks with a low fat dip
 Raw vegetables such as tomatoes, celery, peppers and cucumber
 Plain breadsticks or crackers with a dairy, fruit or vegetable portion
 Small portion of cheese
 Fruit based yogurts
 Plain rice cakes only
 Sandwiches, pancakes
 Filled bagels, baguettes, pitta bread or rolls
 Tortilla wraps
 Meats – ham, chicken
 Water/milk

Unsuitable Healthy Break Snacks
• Any types of confectionary, e.g. chocolate products and sweets
• Cereal bars (as some can have very high sugar content)
• ‘Fruit’ bars (as some can have very high sugar content)
• Crisps and crisp-like products such as tortilla chips, potato sticks, corn chips, prawn crackers, puff crackers.
• Cheddars/Oddities etc.
• Any salted or flavoured rice cakes
• Pretzels
• Bombay mix
• Cakes or buns of any kind. All biscuits
• Pastries – croissants, Danish, tarts etc.
• Chocolate spread, jams, marmalade and honey
• Meats – sausage, Peperami
• Non fruit based yogurts e.g. those containing chocolate/biscuit etc.
• Cordials and fruit juices

NO NUTS or foods containing nuts should be brought into school due to several children with severe nut allergies.

If your child has a special diet and their choice of foods is restricted for snack or lunch, please ensure the school is fully aware of this.
