Mental Maths (All links on website)

  • Top Marks - Daily 10/ Tables grids one per day grids 49-53.
  • "Mostly Postie" game involves reading scales - choose a suitable level. 
  • "Hit the button" and "Mental Maths train" help to reinforce knowledge of times tables, division facts and confidence with the four operations. 
  • Revision of angles ppt will help you revise basic angles and their properties.

Spellings

  • All groups have a revision list attached under “Week five Spellings”
  • Complete spelling challenges to practise spelling rules  (dictionary work, writing a paragraph, sorting into word classes)

Reading:

  • It is imperative that children read for enjoyment at home for at least 15 minutes per day.

Writing Tasks:

ALL GROUPS

Two Minute Tales -- BBC Writing Competition. Children from all across Northern Ireland have a chance to have their wonderful short stories brought to life on BBC Radio Ulster… or even made into their very own animation! The top story in each category will be turned into an animation and featured across the BBC. The runners-up in each category will receive a specially commissioned illustration of a scene from their story.

Parents must follow the link on the website that will take them to a form to specifically upload their child’s story should they wish to enter.

Remember:

  1. Everyone has the ability to write a story
  2. The theme for this story is ‘Home’
  3. The word limit is three hundred (300) maximum
  4. Use the website reference for added guidance and ideas i.e. Two Minute Tales – top tips for story writing

Weekly Comprehension:

Comprehension: Group 1 (Finches) Two Owls; Group 2 (Sparrows): Matilda joins Crunchem Hall; Group 3 (Wrens): The ‘ration book’ Olympics; Group 4 (Robins): Octocure

 

Grammar (Under Junior English):

  • Group 1-3: Look at “Compound Sentences multi-clause” ppt – Complete activity – identify if the sentence is a multi-clause complex sentence and justify.
  • Group 4: Join the sentences using the appropriate conjunctions.

 

Novel work:

WAR HORSE - LISTENING TO EPISODE  5: A Brief Respite

  • All groups: Complete comprehension (differentiated) – working on writing extended answers to a question.

 

Numeracy  (Under Week 5 – Maths)

P7 Maths revision booklet: Pages have been scanned and converted into PDF for ease of printing at home!

Group 1-3: Next 5 pages Q8 join each of these fractions.....to 5/9 x 3/10

Group 4: Next 2 pages to finish the booklet.

Extension (all groups) – Roman numerals to 100 page.

 

Folens – One a week (Children should have these booklets home with them, however they have been scanned and uploaded if not – answers are also attached)

Note: An extension activities folder has been set up for maths – see Extension Maths Activities – Number extension – Work through at own pace. (This is OPTIONAL)

  

BBC iTeach have developed an amazing resource of lessons with interactive videos and links – along with activities in all subjects. A folder has been uploaded with their schedule along with the link to their P7 lesson page. Mapwork - Blank Map Task:

Activity one: Important Features of the British Isles (using the online atlas link provided). Locate the features mentioned and mark them on the blank map as accurately as possible.

Activity two: Locate and draw the following features unto the blank map (back page):

  1. Capital cities of England, Scotland, Wales, N. Ireland and Republic of Ireland
  2. Lough Neagh
  3. River Mersey, River Tyne and River Shannon
  4. Isle of Wight
  5. Mourne Mountains
