Language- up and down!
Children in nursery need to use and understand the mathematical language of up and down. This could be displayed through a variety of play ideas using a selection of toys with wheels and a box (shoe box for example). You give your child a box and a toy and give them directions by inserting the positional words ‘up’ and ‘down’ into the sentences, e.g. “The toy is travelling ______ the box.” Your child then follows your instruction. You can even switch it up by challenging your child to give you instructions using the positional words ‘up’ and ‘down’.
