Congratulations to Phoebe Reid who has had her story chosen by the Children's Writing Fellow of Northern Ireland Myra Zepf to be illustrated at a special event this April!

In February P6S had a class visit from the author and The Children’s Writing Fellow for Northern Ireland Myra Zepf. Myra discussed her ‘Head Over Heels’ programme and ‘upside down’ creative writing.

Following Myra’s visit P6S wrote their own creative stories along with hundreds of other pupils across the country. Phoebe Reid in our class created ‘The Scaredy Prince and the Daring Princess’ which was subsequently chosen as one of Myra’s favourite five stories. As a prize for her writing the class has been invited to the Seamus Heaney Home Place Centre in Bellaghy on Monday 16th of April.

The Laureate na nÓg – PJ Lynch – will be there along with 4 other illustrators. They are:

Tarsila Kruse

Peter Donnelly

Andrew Whitson

Author Dave Rudden will also be there to act as narrator of the stories, as the five illustrators illustrate the stories live.

A very big THANK YOU to all of our families and friends who recently contributed to the Sponsored "Glow for it!". The amount raised to date is £7190.09. The named charities will be receiving their donations after the Easter break and we hope to involve as many of our children as possible in the photographs to celebrate this excellent charity collection. Could all outstanding sponsor money be sent into school as soon as possible.

Congratulations to the boys' team AND the girls' team, who both won their area tournaments and will now participate in the National Futsal Finals during Easter.

This is the second year in a row the boys have won and a first for the girls.

Girls Hockey - A Team

We played our final league match at home against Carrick PS on Monday 12^th March. We had some great play from the defence and midfield, with great balls coming through from Hannah Whaley and Haydn McKinley to the attackers. We scored our first 2 goals in quick succession, by Emma Latimer. After half time we kept our formation well, and another 2 goals came from Chloe Gordon, and another from Grace Cochrane. This 5-0 win has set us up well for our next tournament - the NI Qualifying Tournament that is on next Wednesday 21^st March.

Girls’ hockey B team match report:

On Monday 5^th March, the B Team played a match against Waringstown Primary School. Ellie Cousins scored the first goal in the first half. This was followed by 2 goals from Kate Holmes in the second half. The score was a 3 - 2 win to King’s Park. The B team was Brooke Armstrong, Grace McNeill, Sophie Tate, Abbie Knox, Miriam Latiff, Kate Holmes, Ellie Cousins, Aimee Brown and Victoria Alexander. Well done girls!

Congratulations to all of the children who represented King’s Park at Portadown Speech Festival. The children worked very hard on their poems and were a credit to the school.

Congratulations to Alfie Parker, Millie Dowds, Olivia Heasley, Lydianna May , Matthew Lamont and Freddie Mc Ternaghan who received highly commended certificates. Victoria Alexander performed extremely well and was awarded 3^rd place. Well done!

This year our Easter Competition asks our children to create an Easter design which should include a cross and an animal.

As usual children are permitted to have assistance from family and friends so that the competition can be a family project.

1. are no restrictions on the design or what can be used. So be creative!!!!!

1. will be an Easter Egg presented to 3 winners from each class throughout the school and a larger egg plus a £10 token for each overall winner in Nursery, Foundation Stage (P1 & P2), Key Stage I (P3 & P4), and Key Stage II (P5, 6 & 7).

The one overall school winner will receive a KING SIZE Easter Egg plus a £20 token. All other entrants will get a cream egg.

1. entries are to be brought to the Assembly Hall and placed on the Class Table before school begins on MONDAY 26^TH MARCH. Parents and friends are invited to view entries between 12.00 noon and 4.00pm on Monday 26^th March and from 8.30 to 9.30am on Tuesday 27^th in the Assembly Hall.
