Topic, Season, Colour and Shape

Throughout the Month of June in Nursery, we will be exploring the topics of:

Holidays, Seaside, Sea life and Transition to Primary 1

We are now within the new season of Summer! Our topics give children the opportunity to recall previous holidays and talk about their summer holidays this year. We will also be exploring the themes of the Seaside and Sea life alongside our Holiday theme.  With the wonderful weather with us, we would like to remind you that there is a wonderful part of the Nursery website called ‘Sun Safety’ where you can have lots of discussion/activities on staying safe in the sun and water.

Please talk about the new season of Summer including:

  1. Longer days and brighter evenings
  2. Warmer weather
  3. What we wear in Summer time
  4. How to protect ourselves from the sun e.g. wearing sun cream, sun hat, sunglasses etc.

Some Key Vocabulary:

T-Shirt, Shorts, Sun hat, Sunglasses, Beach, Sun cream

Days of the Week!

It's important for Nursery children to be aware of and talk about the days of the week- including what day it was yesterday, what day it is today and what day tomorrow is going to be. Here is a fun video to help children learn the days of the week! It's to the tune of 'The Adams Family' so....get singing!

The Weather!

Talk to your child about the weather as it changes day by day. You can discuss yesterday’s weather, today's weather and predict the type of weather your child thinks tomorrow will bring! This is an open ended language activity as you can discuss the colours and shapes you can see, the season and what clothes you need to wear in different types of weather.

Below you will find a super fun weather home learning challenge as well as the weather diary from last week! Enjoy!

Colour-Blue!

Go on a colour hunt with your child to find as many BLUE items as you can around your home!

Shape!

This month we are going to recap all the shapes that you have learnt this year in Nursery! You can pick one shape for every day of the week to hunt, as well as completing your first recap activity below.

Shape Monsters!

You can make the activity from scratch as seen in the first photo or you can follow the link to the Topmarks website and play the game online. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/early-years/shape-monsters
