Mental Maths

For the monster stroll game you are trying to move your monster from one side of the board to the other by answering the questions. You can only click one of the answers highlighted in a box around your monster, you can’t click an answer at the other side of the board. For the identify fractions game you need to match the fraction shown to the correct answer.

We will be taking a break from speed tests this week.                    

Mental Maths

For the number climb game sure you hit fractions, you are then going to select the balls from the smallest fraction to the largest fraction. For the puzzle pictures game you are shown a fraction and you have to match this fraction to the correct number line shown. Once you have figured out which number line matches the correct fraction, drag the image in the bottom corner to that number line.

Today is a staff training day – therefore there will be no remote learning set.

Mental Maths

For the flipping pancakes game you will be shown a fraction of pancakes to flip, you then need to flip how many pancakes you think that is and then hit the bell. For the beach surprise game you need to select the correct place on the number line, for the latter rounds you need to hit the number line in the bottom corner and select how many smaller lines are needed. You then hit the fraction and place it onto the correct line on the number line.

For both of these games they ask you lots of different questions on fractions, one is on mixed fractions and the other is reducing fractions to the smallest possible amount.

We have now finished our spelling booklet – we are going to revise over the “hardest words to learn”

Look out carefully for:

  • Apostrophes
  • Capital letters for proper nouns
  • Capital letters than are not needed
  • Speech marks
  • Commas
  • Colons – needed when there is a list

Choose a scene that may be more familiar to you, for example, forest, beach or whatever you prefer.

Brainstorm all the things within the scene that could be moving.

Use videos or clips of the scene, dictionaries and thesaurus as needed to help identify suitable verbs (doing words).

Create a table, listing ten nouns you imagine in your mind from that scene – then match them up with ten movements (verbs).

Do you ever use math as a tool to solve interesting problems? In the 1970s math was often taught with simple worksheets. One teacher developed an exciting way to learn math and logic; he developed what is now known as the magic triangle puzzle
