Week Twelve

School Closure Planner – Primary Seven

Week Twelve – 22/06/2020

No formal Maths or English is being set this week to allow for this to act as a transition week

  • Click on “End of Year” sub-page on the Primary Seven Page
  • A virtual tour has been attached of Lurgan Junior High School and other schools that have provided videos or links for new year eight pupils.

End of Year Leavers Memory Books

This week, children should focus on preparing a memory year book to keep for years to come. Attached are some templates to help children reflect on their time at King's Park and process their transition to secondary school.

Children are not confined to this template and should feel free to complete this activity in whatever way feels suitable for them.

Ideas

  • Make a scrapbook, draw or find pictures from over the years, including clippings or momentos kept (examples of work, art etc).
  • Collect all certificates and achievements and keep together in file to preserve for years to come.
  • Record a video or put together a slideshow of your time at King's Park.

Transition to Secondary School Lesson

Watch the video and go through the powerpoint to discuss key concepts surrounding transitioning into a new school.

Secondary Scenario Booklet

Attached is a booklet that explores some of the logistical and organisational changes your child will may face. Such as reading and navigating a timetable, some of the facts and fictions about secondary school and also any worries or concerns they may have.

BBC Transition Resources

To help students transition from primary to secondary school the BBC has partnered with YoungMinds Find your Feet project, aimed at enabling schools to actively support the mental health and emotional well-being of children as they start the next chapter in their lives.

Four key topics associated with starting secondary school are listed here. Each one has a Find Your Feet activity and a short film that can be used as a conversation starter either in the classroom or at home.

Podcast

Children may want to create a podcast this week of something that they are passionate about or interested in. This is something we would have completed in the third term in school to develop and assess talking and listening skills. They can video or record themselves delivering a podcast and discussing various aspects of their topic. Videos can be sent in to kpsp72020challenge@gmail.com (this is completely optional)
