    Boys Hockey – NI Qualifiers

On Wednesday 7th March, The Boys Hockey Team travelled to Killicomaine J.H.S to compete in the Northern Ireland Qualifiers. In our first match we played Drumgor P.S. and came away with a convincing 2-0 win, with both goals being scored by Harry Kerr! Our second match was against a very strong Armstrong P.S side. Our boys played very well and came away with a respectable 0-0 draw. Our final match was against Millington P.S. The boys knew that they had to win by 3 goals or more to make it to the Northern Ireland Finals. The team played fantastically well and won the game 1-0, with Harry Kerr again scoring our goal. Unfortunately, this meant that we didn’t make the NI Finals on goal difference. Special mention must go to Lewis Robinson who was outstanding in nets and didn’t concede a goal throughout the whole tournament.

    Girls Hockey – A Team

The girls played in the NI Qualifying Tournament on Wednesday 21st March at Killicomaine JHS. We played our first match against Bocombra. We were a little shaky to start, and conceded a quick goal, but then we equalised shortly afterwards with a great finish from Chloe Gordon. Bocombra had some lovely passing, and scored a well-executed goal just before the final whistle. Our next match was against Hardy, we were more settled in this match and came away with a 1-0 win with a great goal from Emma Latimer. Last up was Armstrong, who had shown great skills in midfield and attack in previous matches. We struggled to keep up with their pace, and unfortunately lost 2-0. The girls played really well in this match however, and were very unlucky not to get a goal.

This meant we didn’t qualify for the Finals after Easter, however we have lots of players staying with us next year, and we look forward to building upon our skills then. We would also like to wish Martha and Hannah all the very best for starting their new schools. You have both played some great hockey for our school over the years, make sure you keep it up!

Team - Tilly Douglas, Hannah Whaley, Haydn McKinley, Martha McTernaghan, Alex Kerr, Chloe Gordon (C), Emma Latimer and Grace Cochrane

     Girls Hockey - B Team

On Tuesday 20th March, the girls played two friendly matches against Maralin Primary School. In the first match, King’s Park won 6-0 and in the second match, King’s Park won 7-0.

Team - Kate Holmes, Ellie Cousins, Brooke Armstrong, Aimee Brown, Grace McNeill, Abbie Knox, Sophie Tate and Victoria Alexander. Well done girls!

  • 'Head over Heels' Winner!

    Mon 26 Mar 2018

Congratulations to Phoebe Reid who has had her story chosen by the Children's Writing Fellow of Northern Ireland Myra Zepf to be illustrated at a special event this April!

In February P6S had a class visit from the author and The Children’s Writing Fellow for Northern Ireland Myra Zepf. Myra discussed her ‘Head Over Heels’ programme and ‘upside down’ creative writing.

Following Myra’s visit P6S wrote their own creative stories along with hundreds of other pupils across the country. Phoebe Reid in our class created ‘The Scaredy Prince and the Daring Princess’ which was subsequently chosen as one of Myra’s favourite five stories. As a prize for her writing the class has been invited to the Seamus Heaney Home Place Centre in Bellaghy on Monday 16th of April.

The Laureate na nÓg – PJ Lynch – will be there along with 4 other illustrators. They are:

    Margaret Anne Suggs

    Tarsila Kruse

    Peter Donnelly

    Andrew Whitson

Author Dave Rudden will also be there to act as narrator of the stories, as the five illustrators illustrate the stories live.

    Well done Phoebe! frown
